Sovereign over sparrows.

“Are not two sparrows sold for a penny? And not one of them will fall to the ground apart from your Father. But even the hairs of your head are all numbered. Fear not, therefore; you are of more value than many sparrows.” – Matthew 10:29-31

Sparrows, in those times, were customarily thought of as insignificant, and small. Penny’s have always been of the least value. So, Jesus here is asking, aren’t two sparrows very insignificant, and without much value? And then answers the question by saying, your Father is sovereign over every one that falls, the hairs on your head are numbered, and this is the reason why you should not fear. God cares for them, how much more does He care for you?

What a profound point, If God is present, and sovereign over the most insignificant, and invaluable creatures, how much more does He care for and supervise His children? He is sovereign over sparrows, and He is sovereign over us. This is the truth, that frees us from fear.

There has not been one word spoken by our governing leaders apart from the all-governing God, there has not been one decision made by anyone, apart from God, not for a moment has God not been present with us, there is nothing in this world that happens, apart from God.

This is such good news in the times we are in. If God is fully present when a sparrow falls, If God is fully involved in insignificant circumstances, we can rest assured that God is fully present, and fully involved in caring for His children. Take heart, God is with us, God is for us, and God is working all of this out for our good. The one who is sovereign, is the one who began the good work in us, and He will never abandon what He began.

If you belong to Jesus, do not fear. Every moment, of every day, He is fully present with you, and is 100% for you. The one who called you out of darkness, will be the one who walks with you through this valley. Trust, and obey Him.

There is so much uncertainty, but know this, His eyes are certainly set on you. Do not set your eyes on the things that are seen; Set your eyes on the unseen fact, that His eyes are set on you. If He sees the sparrows, He sees you. If He cares for sparrows, how much more does He care for you?
