American Gospel: Christ Alone

If you are a Netflix person, but you wish there was something more biblical to watch on there, today is a good day for you. The movie ‘American Gospel’ is now available to watch on Netflix, and I am praising the Lord that he opened this door! This is a wonderfully made movie, that is bearing great fruit in the evangelical world. It is theologically rich, eye-opening, and I highly recommend it. You can watch it alone, or I recommend you watch it as a family!

What you will find in this movie is a clearly presented gospel. Paul Washer a pastor who is in the movie says this:

“The gospel is not only for unbelievers, but a reminder for believers as well.”

This is true. We all need a reminder that Christ fulfilled the law for us. We all need a reminder that we cannot work our way to heaven, and that a genuine faith produces a genuine work in the believer. We need to be reminded of the fundamental elements of the gospel. Believers need reminded of the gospel, and unbelievers need to hear the gospel in it’s purity and power. This movie provides that.

This movie may also step on toes, and that is ok. We all need our out-of-line toes stepped on every now and then. This movie will biblically, lovingly, and graciously help you see the detrimental teachings that are sweeping our country. This movie clearly portrays false-teachers for what they are, false-teachers. We should test everyone who claims to be an oracle for God. We should all take the words of Jesus very seriously:

“Beware of false prophets, who come to you in sheep’s clothing but inwardly are ravenous wolves. You will recognize them by their fruits.” – Matthew 7:15-16

We should beware, be aware, and be informed when it comes to people who claim to be God’s called ministers. You will know them by what they produce, and you will know them by whether or not they conform themselves honestly to the Scriptures. This movie will shine a light on many Scripture-twisting false teachers in our world today, in a very loving fashion. We live in a time where this Scripture is being fulfilled right before our eyes:

“For the time is coming when people will not endure sound teaching, but having itching ears they will accumulate for themselves teachers to suit their own passions, and will turn away from listening to the truth and wander off into myths.” – 2 Timothy 4:3-4

In other words, people will seek out a preacher who will tell them what they want to hear. Their itching ears will want to hear that they are right with the Lord, even if they are not. Their itching ears will want to hear that God will make sure that they avoid trials and suffering in this life, even though that’s not true. Their itching ears will want to hear a preacher preach directly to the idolatry in their heart, and they will seek out a preacher to suit that passion. This movie will gently and kindly help you see these things, and will turn your eyes upon the true Christ of the Bible.

This movie has wonderful testimony as well. You will hear great testimonies of how God delivered people from bad-teachings, and how these people are now madly in love with Jesus even in the midst of their suffering. You will see other tremendous testimonies that will have you in tears of joy, and this is why I recommend this movie. It will show Jesus to be the most valuable treasure in the universe. He is worthy of everything. I don’t want to spoil this tremendous movie for you, so I’ll just say:

I couldn’t recommend this movie more highly.
