Fear Not

“Fear not, for I am with you; be not dismayed, for I am your God; I will strengthen you, I will help you, I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.” – Isaiah‬ ‭41:10‬

As God’s children walk their pilgrimage out, there are many obstacles. Many different uncertainties can creep into the mind and create fear. Heart and mind controlling anxieties dig their feet in, and make it so difficult to see, hear, and believe the promises of God. We have a tendency to overestimate what we are afraid of, and underestimate the God we serve.

The voice of our uncertainties and fears become so loud at times, and the remedy is opening God’s word. God’s word will bellow much louder than the voice of fear. God’s promise’s should override the what if’s we allow to consume us. There are no what ifs with the promise’s of God. There is only what is, and who He is.

Overestimating what-ifs:

What does the future hold? What will my children experience in this dark world? How will it all end? These questions, and others like them, enter the narrative of all people. We have a tendency to answer these questions with the greatest of what ifs, and worst-case-scenarios. Imaginative situations seem to answer all of our questions, and before we know it we are consumed by not-so-real scenarios. Then the day comes and we look back and say, I overestimated this fear, and by doing so I underestimated God.

Underestimating God:

Take today’s verse for example:

“Fear not, for I am with you; be not dismayed, for I am your God; I will strengthen you, I will help you, I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.” – Isaiah‬ ‭41:10‬ ‭

God doesn’t say, “Fear not, what your worried about won’t happen.” No, he promises to be with you through whatever it is you walk through. This is more comforting than promising something won’t come upon you, giving you a false hope. God Himself will be your strength, God Himself will be your help, God Himself will uphold you. The power of the promises of God are found in His promise of Himself in the midst of trials. You and I are called to fear not, because we know the One who goes before us, stands behind us, and upholds us.

We underestimate the power of God to sustain us. We fear the future, and our promised suffering, when we should see that God is powerful to sustain us in it. And when He sustains us in it, all of what we trust that is not God is incinerated, to the praise and glory of God alone.

So, I don’t know what imaginative, what-if scenario you are fearing today, and I won’t promise you that it won’t happen. I will say that if you belong to Jesus fear not, for God is with you. Be not dismayed because He is your God. He will strengthen you. He will uphold you with His righteous right hand, no matter the circumstance.
