I walked into the hospital room. Her neck was broken, and she had two black eyes. She was toward the end of her life, and you could tell she was deep in thought.
We were able to talk some, and my aim was to put the sword in her hand, so that she could fight. This time was different than other times, because she put her hand out and asked for the sword.
She looked at me and said, “I know I’m in His hand. I can feel Him holding me.”
I said, “That’s true. If you’re truly in the faith. You are in His hand, and none can snatch you out.”
She looked at me and said, “Can I jump out of his hand?”
I said, “Are you stronger than God’s hand?”
We both smiled, prayed, and rejoiced in the Lord together. What a joy it is to know that God preserves the faith of His saints. We have eternal life, not temporary life.
This encounter reminded me of this quote by J.I. Packer:
“Your faith will not fail while God sustains it; you are not strong enough to fall away while God is resolved to hold you.”
What a joy it is to know that the strength of God’s hand is what holds us, not our weak faith. When we are weak He is strong.
The Bible has much to say about God preserving the faith of His people.
“I give them eternal life, and they will never perish, and no one will snatch them out of my hand.” -John 10:28
“Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? Shall tribulation, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or danger, or sword? As it is written, “For your sake we are being killed all the day long; we are regarded as sheep to be slaughtered.” No, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him who loved us. For I am sure that neither death nor life, nor angels nor rulers, nor things present nor things to come, nor powers, nor height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord.” -Romans 8:35-39
No one, including you, can separate you from the love of God. No circumstance can separate you from the love of God. Absolutely nothing can separate you from the love of God. If you are truly in His hand, and He has decided to hold you, you are not strong enough to get away. God is sovereign, man is not.
If you are bearing fruit in keeping with repentance, bearing fruits of the Holy Spirit, growing in holiness, righteousness, and faith, rejoice today. These are evidences that God will preserve your faith.
If these things are not a reality in your life, repent and believe the gospel.
