The War On Christianity

“But Peter and the apostles answered, “We must obey God rather than men.” -Acts‬ ‭5:29‬

The war against Christians is as old as time itself. Since the fall of mankind in the garden, there has been enmity between God’s children, and the world. So, what is going on in California, and other places shouldn’t surprise us.

“I will put enmity between you and the woman, and between your offspring and her offspring” – Genesis‬ ‭3:15‬a

Yesterday, Grace Community Church, pastored by John MacArthur, respectfully, thoughtfully, and biblically disobeyed the orders of Gavin Newsom and the California government, who called for the indefinite shut-down of the church. Elders from Grace tweeted that the government was threatening to cut the power to their building during the service. The service went on, and praise the Lord because John MacArthur gave one of the most moving sermons I have heard in my life.

The hypocrisy, and clear discrimination in California is incredible. Abortion clinics have remained open, liquor stores have remained open, protests have gone on, lawlessness abounding, but churches are supposed to close?

364 abortions per day. 900,000 abortions per year. The deadliest force in California is not COVID-19, it’s abortion.

Not only is the church essential, it is our only hope. When babies are murdered at this rate, the church holds a responsibility to be salt and light. To cry out for those who can’t, and shine a light on the evil that is done in the dark.

It should be no surprise that the businesses that feed the depraved nature of man would remain open, and the doors that lead to life would be closed. Let me say this plainly, this is discriminatory against Christians, and has absolutely nothing to do with COVID-19.

That being said, MacArthur charged the church to view this time as an opportunity:

“This is not a problem. This is a time for the true church to stand up and be the church. We will stand, meet, worship, and preach the saving gospel of Jesus Christ.” -John MacArthur

MacArthur is absolutely right. The church must view this time as a wonderful opportunity to be bold, and proclaim the saving gospel of Jesus Christ.

What is the objective of the enemy? Silence Christians, and frustrate the advancement of the gospel. Yet, God uses times like these to stir the convictions of Christians, and advance the gospel.

The enemy wants to silence Christians, and Christians will speak out louder than ever. The enemy wants the gospel to halt, and it will advance with a renewed vigor. The church rediscovers her convictions under distress. What the enemy means for evil, God means for good.

“As for you, you meant evil against me, but God meant it for good, to bring it about that many people should be kept alive, as they are today.” – Genesis‬ ‭50:20‬

Christian, stand, speak, worship, and join the fight.

Join me in praying for three specific things in this time:

1. The salvation of Gavin Newsom.

“First of all, then, I urge that supplications, prayers, intercessions, and thanksgivings be made for all people, for kings and all who are in high positions, that we may lead a peaceful and quiet life, godly and dignified in every way. This is good, and it is pleasing in the sight of God our Savior, who desires all people to be saved and to come to the knowledge of the truth.” -1 Timothy‬ ‭2:1-4‬

2. That Christians would rediscover biblical convictions, and stand up in this time.

“Cry aloud; do not hold back; lift up your voice like a trumpet; declare to my people their transgression, to the house of Jacob their sins.” -Isaiah 58:1

3. That the gospel would advance.

“I want you to know, brothers, that what has happened to me has really served to advance the gospel” -Philippians‬ ‭1:12‬
