One of the most fundamental parts of the Christian life is trust. A simple trust in God. An acknowledgement that He is trustworthy, and walking forward confidently. Sounds easy, right? Well, actually no.
Simply trusting Jesus is a difficult task because of our fallen nature. We see through a mirror dimly, and the trust that we need can sometimes feel far away.
We give people cliches, and Christianese, expecting our quirky remarks to help others trust the Lord. People know the Christian language, they know the right words to say, but they don’t know how to fuel people’s trust in the Lord. I’m guilty of it, we’re all guilty of it. “God’s got this,” we say, but what does that actually mean? “Let go, and let God,” but how do I do that?
Trusting in the Lord takes practice, intentional living, prayerful discipline, and above all, Bible knowledge.
You cannot trust who you do not know, and you cannot trust God if you do not know His word. So, Bible memorization is arguably the most fruitful discipline you can implement in your daily life. Storing God’s Word up in your heart and mind, so that you can send your thought pattern to the storehouse in times of need.
Here are 3 Bible verses you can memorize to help you through the school year, and ignite trust in God:
- Proverbs 3:5-6, “Trust in the Lord with all you heart, and do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make straight your paths.”
2. Psalm 56:3, “When I am afraid, I put my trust in you. In God, whose word I praise, in God I trust; I shall not be afraid. What can flesh do to me?”
3. Isaiah 26:3-4, “You keep him in perfect peace whose mind is stayed on you, because he trusts in you. Trust in the Lord forever, for the Lord God is an everlasting rock.”
Lay hold to these texts. Meditate on them day and night. Say them out loud. Whisper them to yourself as you walk into uncertain situations. Let them do what they are designed to do, bear fruit in your life, and fill you with a confident trust in Jesus.
Here is a hymn that you can hum this school year, that gets to the heart of each of these texts:
“Simply trusting every day; Trusting through a stormy way; Even when my faith is small, Trusting Jesus, that is all. Trusting as the moments fly, trusting as the days go by, Trusting Him, whate’er befall, Trusting Jesus that is all.”
