Jesus Is Better

The greatest reason to turn from your sin today is this: Jesus is better.

“Jesus said to her, “Everyone who drinks of this water will be thirsty again, but whoever drinks of the water that I will give him will never be thirsty again. The water that I will give him will become in him a spring of water welling up to eternal life.” -John‬ ‭4:13-14‬

Jesus is living satisfaction. He is the only one who delivers on His promise to satisfy. Sin may beckon, call, and promise some sort of satisfaction, but it never delivers. You may experience fleeting, temporal pleasure when in sin, but it always leaves you worse off than you were before. The wells of sin always leave you dry, but the Living Well of Jesus Christ will always leave you satisfied.

John piper said it like this:

“The power of all temptation is the prospect that it will make you happier. But sin will never make you happier.”

Pornography, fornication, adultery, drunkenness, lying, stealing, and any other sin all promise the same thing, “You will be happier if you come to me.” But this lie is as old as time itself. All of these things shipwreck lives. Also, the reality is, if you are able to willfully continue in those sins with no brokenness, no sorrow, no repentance, and no discipline from God, you very well may not be in the faith at all. You very well may not be born-again.

No one born of God makes a practice of sinning, for God’s seed abides in him; and he cannot keep on sinning, because he has been born of God.” -1 John‬ ‭3:9‬

What the Bible has laid out for us in Christ, is far better than sin. Christ promises in His Word peace, and He delivers. He promises joy, and He delivers. He promises new life, and He delivers. He promises, and He delivers. Sin never does that, sin always deceives.

Trust Christ, trust His Word, obey His Word, and look to the cross for forgiveness, and power.

Repent today, build your life on the Rock, because Jesus is better.
